20,000 Children - Akwatia, Ghana
[GAIO]

Design a high-efficiency water pump for the community of Akwatia, Ghana in conjunction with GAIO's ongoing efforts to establish a regional library and technology center.

Quarter Goals

During the winter 2012 quarter, the team will focus on finalizing the design of the pump and building a new pump and structure. Last quarter, data about the pump's performance was collected by testing a prototype pump the team built. The testing of the pump will be continued in the beginning of the quarter. This will allow the group to gain additional data needed to finalize some of the parameters in the pump design. The team will also be doing a lot of building this quarter. In the fall, a new design for the structure to support the pump was created. This structure will be built along with a new model of the pump. It is the goal of the team to be able to have not only a finalized pump design, but also a functional pump based on the updated design by the end of the quarter.
