[Casa Familiar]
Create a streaming video experience as part of a Mutual Recognition project for Casa Familiar's Political Equator III

Quarter Goals

The purpose of the Casa Communications Team (CasaComm) is to aid and enhance Casa Familiar’s ability to serve the community. The team acts as advisors to provide ideas and solutions to technological issues. These issues revolve around the OptiPortables, which are stationed at Casa Familiar: The Front, South Metro Career Center (SMCC), and Calit2 at UCSD. The team works with Casa Familiar to enhance the connectivity between the OptiPortable locations and also correct other related topics specific to the OptiPortable at the Front. The present focus is on acoustic improvements within The Front as well as assisting in a future education program utilizing the OptiPortable at the same location.

Team A Project

Team A is tasked with sound panel design, sound propagation testing and product construction. Their goal is to design and build a series of sound reflective panels and implement absorbing materials that can be mounted along the walls or ceiling of The Front gallery. They are considering several methods of design presentation, including scale models of the gallery's ceiling layout, allowing them to better understand how the design can be implemented into the gallery without hindering the gallery's functions. They will be experimenting with panel placement for the purposes of optimizing the acoustic environment suitable for The Front's main functions and events.

Team B Project

The Opti-portable Subteam will implement a system for a digital slideshow of artwork for Casa Familiar’s gallery space, the Front. This system will enhance visitors’ experience at the Front by allowing the guests to zoom, or even look up the background information of any particular artwork via the use of the Opti-portable.
