Project Spotlight

One Village Philippines

The Client's Needs

Gawad Kalinga (GK) is a non-profit organization based in the Philippines, dedicated to the eradication of poverty by empowering local Filipino communities. Currently GK villages in rural areas do not have access to safe and affordable night time lighting. Lack of lighting at night can be a risk factor for dangerous situations.

Our Solution

We’re working to provide a sustainable and affordable solar powered street lamp. The street lamp will be able to withstand the weather conditions in the Philippines and provide ample lighting during the night.

How It Works

During the day, the circuitry is designed to automatically turn LEDs off when there is light in the environment and the solar panel charges the battery. The LED controller automatically turns on the lights when it is dark. The circuitry also ensures that the battery does not overcharge or over-discharge the battery. This ensures prolonging the battery which is crucial during days there may not be enough sunlight to charge the battery.

Project Impact

This lamp will provide a sustainable and locally sourced solution to the issue of lack of lighting at night time. This will result in a safer environment in many Filipino villages, and has the potential to be used in many other remote and low-income areas around the world.
