Apply to Global TIES

Global TIES offers 2 courses; Design for Development (100D) and Design for Development Lab (100L). 100D is a prerequisite to 100L where students work with a non-profit client for a single quarter to lay the foundation for a humanitarian engineering project. Certain projects are then carried out over the course of a few quarters to a few years by students enrolled in 100L, which can be taken 6 times for a letter grade. Each team has a separate section of 100L which works with a specific non-profit client. 100D may be taken concurrently with your first 100L course, or you may take 100D then join a project in a future quarter. No application is necessary for 100D enrollment. Follow these 3 steps to join the team for an ongoing project!

Step 1: Check out the Global TIES projects

All students interested in being a part of a Global TIES team should check out the current projects. Descriptions of the projects can be found under the 'PROJECTS' menu at the top of this page. Consider which ones best fit your interests and course of study. You may choose to apply for a new or continuing project. During the application process, you will be asked to rank your project preferences.

Step 2: Apply to the Global TIES program using MyTIES

This provides the information that Global TIES needs in order to select team members based on preferences and project needs. After you submit your online application, you will be sent an email confirming that we have received your application.

After your application has been reviewed, you will receive another email advising you of your status. If accepted, this email will include the information you need to register for your Global TIES project

Step 3: Sign up in WebReg according your email's instructions!

If you would like to switch teams after you have applied and been accepted please send an email to mbratton@eng.ucsd.edu stating what team you're on, what team you wish to switch to, and why you would like to switch.
