Prospective Students

All majors are welcome, but we are specifically looking for Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Computer Science majors. We will be working with mySQL, Apache, Javascript, PHP, and HTML. Education minors and students who have previous experience with elementary/middle school educational programs are also encouraged to join.

Mission Statement

In partnership with San Diego Unified School District and Millennial Tech Middle School, Groundwork San Diego-Chollas Creek was turning a 4-acre open space parcel into a dynamic outdoor learning lab for Chollas Creek students. Our team seeks to help Groundwork San Diego achieve their goals through strengthening their ability to promote STEM education to local children and the community. This quarter specifically we have been focusing more on creating projects and resources for the students to enhance their learning on environmental engineering, and the environmental footprint they leave on earth.

Subteams

Water Team

The current objective of the Solar Power Team is to design a lesson plan and experiment involving water driven power for the students at Millennial Tech Middle School. The lesson plan will teach the students basic information about renewable power sources and its benefit to society, and the experiment will allow them to see what they learn from the lesson in action!

Web Design Team

The current objective is to create a website for the students to be able to tie together what they have learned about electrical power consumption, with their appliances at home. The students will be able to enter in their at home appliances, and see how much power they cost relative to each other, and how much money and energy it is using. By using charts and graphs they will be able to see the effect their own home has on the environment, and why saving energy is relevant to them.

Client

Groundwork San Diego-Chollas Creek is a non-profit environmental organization committed to revitalizing the Chollas Creek Watershed and its surrounding communities.
